[ HISTORY ]Origins of Trauma Llama.
Trauma Llama began as a simple idea—a joke that unexpectedly gained traction within the walls of a behavioral health hospital. In late 2025, the founder of Trauma Llama was admitted to Salt Lake City Behavioral Health, where he found himself surrounded by peers struggling with many of the same challenges he faced. What had once felt like a lonely mental health journey became a shared experience in a stable, supportive environment—one that encouraged vulnerability, honesty, and healing.
During a recreational therapy session, the group was asked to carve bars of soap as a stress-relief exercise. After an hour of carving what was meant to be a giraffe, the group agreed the result looked far more like a llama. That soap llama quickly earned a name: the Trauma Llama. What started as a small laugh slowly became something much bigger. It came to represent hope, growth, and new beginnings.
Like a bar of soap, we are constantly changing—capable of being reshaped into something new and better. Maybe what was supposed to be a giraffe was never meant to be one at all. Its true purpose was to become a llama.
Over the month and a half spent in the hospital, the idea continued to grow. We realized Trauma Llama deserved to exist beyond those walls. What began as something silly became a way to help others understand that mental health struggles are real—and that asking for help is not only okay, but necessary.
